Fuchs Announces New Additions to Management Team

Since the move to our new facility in late 2016, exciting things have been happening at Fuchs! Most recently, we added two new members to our management team, Derrick Epley as Director of Operations, and Marty Lev, Director of Supply Chain. Their extensive qualifications and proven track records of successfully implementing and optimizing supply chain and operations programs make them both ideally suited for supporting our customers’ needs and improving our internal processes as Fuchs continues to grow. Read on to learn more about Derrick and Marty.

As director of operations, Derrick is responsible for overseeing all aspects of daily operations, as well as implementing and optimizing production processes.

Prior to joining Fuchs North America, Derrick most recently held the role of assistant plant manager at Dairy Farmers of America. He previously held operations and production management roles at Nestle, Starbucks and Amazon.

Derrick holds a BS in Information Systems with an emphasis on Industrial Science from Western Kentucky University.

“As I begin my new journey with Fuchs, I am very excited about collaborating and working with our team to propel the manufacturing operations to world class manufacturing.  The operations leadership team has aligned on the following mission moving forward: 1) Create an environment that exhibits a safety culture with 100% ownership   2) Educate our team members to be teachers, not just students in food safety 3) Become operational experts in not only running equipment efficiently, but maintaining it to its full potential as well 4) Empower and develop our Fuchs team members to be creators of excellence and take ownership in everything we do,” Derrick explains.

As director of supply chain, Marty is responsible for developing and optimizing supply chain processes, including procurement and planning.

Prior to joining Fuchs North America, he held the role of director of global planning and procurement for Medifast, Inc., where he was successful in improving planning processes and generating cost savings. Marty previously spent five years as the director of procurement at Williams Scotsman, where he created a structured procurement program to support more than 90 branches in 3 countries. He also held operations and supply chain management roles at Givaudan Flavors prior to that.

Marty holds a DBA in Supply Chain Management from Argosy University and an MBA in Corporate Finance from University of Baltimore.

“I am looking forward to working with a great group of people to improve the supply chain function so that we can provide exceptional service to our customers,” Marty notes.

PLMA 2017 Recap

The Fuchs team is always on the go! In mid-November, we returned to PLMA to meet with customers, attend educational sessions and share some of our favorite seasoning innovations from 2017. A team of Fuchs’ food scientists, along with Chef Elizabeth Lindemer, artfully crafted 8 yummy and on-trend seasonings in a variety of applications for the show. Among the items we showed were:

Shichimi Togarashi JerkyAlso known as Japanese 7 Spice, this jerky seasoning was a hit at both Snaxpo and PLMA this year. Following along with the Asian food trends, this seasoning not only works great in jerky and meat applications, but is also excellent on snacks like popcorn.

Mediterranean Pumpkin Goat CheeseThis item was among the most popular at the Wisconsin Cheese Show. Not only are Mediterranean flavors on trend, but with rich pumpkin notes, this seasoning is perfect for fall!

untitled 790Senegalese Style Tamarind & Coconut Cashews From our African Exploration Collection, which was released in April, this snack nut seasoning is vibrant and flavorful. Adventurous eaters and coconut lovers alike enjoy this tangy and sweet snack seasoning.

Berbere BBQ Kettle ChipsAlso from our African Exploration Collection, our Berbere BBQ seasoning is spicy and versatile. From meats to snacks, this hot and spicy ethnic seasoning meets consumers’ demand for heat.

DipCaramelized Onion & Roasted Garlic DipRoasted Garlic was among the top growth flavors in foodservice this year, so it made sense for us to incorporate it into this dip seasoning from our Game Day Glory III Collection, released in January.

Chick Chick ChiliAlso from Game Day III, our Chick Chick Chili Soup Base makes for a hearty and warm soup perfect for game day.

Chipotle Adobo MeatballsOriginally from our Latin Action Collection, our Chipotle Adobo seasoning has been transformed into a spicy seasoning for meatballs. In addition to meatballs, this flavor profile works well in a variety of meat applications, as well as snacks.

Carrot Cake 8Kashmiri Spiced Carrot CupcakesSince our South Asian Collection came out in October, Chef Elizabeth’s Kashmiri Spiced Carrot Cupcakes have quickly become a “Fuchs Favorite.” This cupcake seasoning allows for a spicy ethnic twist on classic carrot cake.

Chicago & Minnesota Suppliers' Nights Recap

October was a busy month for the Fuchs team, with Suppliers’ Nights for the Minnesota and Chicago IFT sections. In addition to connecting with customers, we showed several yummy snacks at our booth. Crafted by Associate Food Scientist Brian Swing, these snack seasonings made the Fuchs booth the place to be. Among our most popular showings were:

Senegalese Style Tamarind & Coconut Snack Nuts from the African Exploration Collection - Sweet, sour and rich with umami, tamarind is an indigenous plant of tropical Africa and a significant ingredient in Senegalese cuisine. We combined this unique ingredient with coconut, another popular component of African cuisine, for an exciting and versatile profile.

Chipotle Caramel Popcorn from the Game Day Glory III Collection - Smoky chipotle peppers with a touch of heat comes together with sweet and buttery caramel to create a fun topping for popcorn, roasted nuts, crackers or other snacks!

Southwest Snacks 8Creamy Southwest Veggie Straws from the Summer Sensations Collection - Not only is this a flavorful blend of tangy buttermilk and cool sour cream, perfectly balanced with fragrant spices and robust peppers for a touch of heat, but it’s also organic certifiable and non-GMO project compliant.

We’re proud to introduce our newest collection, the South Asian Collection! These vibrant and authentic seasonings were artfully developed by Chef Elizabeth Lindemer, Fuchs’ Corporate Executive Chef. The four items in this collection are:

• Kashmiri Spiced Cupcake Mix
• Kerala Style Lamb Curry
• Masala Chai Lassi Drink Mix

Our newest collection delivers on authenticity, while also providing unique and creative twists on popular South Asian foods and flavors. 

Butter Tacos 11Elizabeth Lindemer, CEC, Fuchs’ corporate executive chef, worked to develop blends that meet consumers’ high expectations of authenticity. “Butter chicken is an iconic dish with roots in the Punjabi cuisine, dating back to the 1950s. Our Butter Chicken Sauce Seasoning has a subtle balance of tanginess, sweetness, mild spiciness and richness. It’s easy to see why this is a favorite Indian dish for so many people,” Lindemer describes. 

With crisp autumn air quickly approaching, it’s time to give the grill a little break and warm up the oven. You’ll find our Kashmiri Spiced Carrot Cake Mix perfectly captures the captivating and inviting spices of the Kashmir Valley region. 

Kerala, located in southern India, serves as the inspiration behind our Kerala Style Lamb Curry Seasoning. “Spices have always played a fundamental role in the cuisine of Kerala. Dating back thousands of years, Kerala rose to fame for its production of spices such as black pepper, cardamom and cinnamon. So, it only seemed fitting that, as a spice and seasoning company, Fuchs North America would honor Kerala with a fragrant and enchanting curry seasoning,” Lindemer explains. 

Lassi 8Not only is our Masala Chai Lassi Drink Mix particularly on-trend, but it’s also the perfect beverage for fall. According to Lindemer, “Lassi is a traditional yogurt-based drink that is common through the Indian subcontinent. Fuchs’ version is slightly sweet and features a subtle tanginess from nonfat Greek yogurt, paired with a hint of black tea and warming spices such as ginger and cinnamon.”
