Here are our predictions for fall 2016’s top seasonal flavors:

Maple on the Risefuchs flavor trend insights maple

Although maple isn’t strictly a fall flavor, expect to see an increase in maple flavors in the coming months. We’re expecting maple to be bigger than ever in the coming year.

The best part about maple? It pairs well with other flavors, making spectacular combinations like maple bacon, maple chipotle, and maple brown sugar. It’s versatile in other ways too – it tastes good on a variety of bases, like cookies, popcorn, pretzels, and sausage.

Drawing on inspiration from home cooking, these flavors will rise in popularity as fall rolls around. Warm, herby flavors typically begin picking up steam in the market around early September and continue to rise in popularity until after the holidays are over.

Don’t be surprised to see savory flavors inspired by dishes like pot roast, butternut squash soup, chili with cornbread, and chicken pot pie. Not only will dishes like these be offered on restaurant menus as LTOs, but they’ll also make appearances in frozen meals, canned soup, and even snacks at the grocery store.

Yummy Seasonal Beverages

Welcome back, pumpkin spice latte. The flavors of favorite fall beverages will be making their yearly comeback – but not just in beverage form. With pumpkin spice lattes being one of America’s favorite seasonal beverages, it’s no surprise that the flavor has made its way into snack foods and desserts. In addition to pumpkin spice, expect to see plenty of other coffee and beverage inspired flavors, like vanilla chai and hot chocolate, on your favorite snacks this fall.

Indulging Your Sweet Toothfuchs flavor trend insights apple pie

Who doesn’t love dessert? Flavors inspired by fall desserts will also be gaining in popularity this season – think apple pie, pumpkin pie, spice cake, snickerdoodle, gingerbread, caramel apple. Expect these desserts on restaurant menus this fall – and their flavors in bakery items and snacks at the grocery stores.

Sweet seasonal flavors like these tend to pair really well with popcorn. And who knows? You may even see them on ice cream!

Gearing Up for Thanksgiving

In addition to pumpkin pie, don’t be surprised to see other Thanksgiving-related dishes popping up on restaurant menus and in retail. Cranberry flavors, inspired by cranberry sauce, are growing in popularity, as are sweet potatoes. These flavors will surely make their way into your life well before Thanksgiving.
